True Worship โ The Mass and Holy Eucharist
Letโs talk about something central to our Catholic faith: the Holy Eucharist. You might know it by other namesโMass, the Lordโs Supper, or the Breaking of the Bread. Whatever we call it, itโs at the heart of who we are as Catholics. In fact, the Church teaches that the Eucharist is the โsource and summitโ of our faith. But what does that really mean? Letโs break it down together.
A Sacrifice Like No Other
Have you ever wondered why we go to Mass every Sunday (and sometimes even more often)? It all goes back to the Last Supper. Imagine Jesus sitting with His disciples, breaking bread, and sharing wine. At that moment, He wasnโt just sharing a mealโHe was giving them His very self. He took the bread and said, โThis is my Body.โ He took the wine and said, โThis is my Blood.โ Then He told them, โDo this in remembrance of me.โ
For us Catholics, this wasnโt just a one-time event. When we celebrate the Mass, weโre not just remembering something that happened long ago. Weโre stepping into that moment, making Jesusโ sacrifice on the Cross present here and now.
But why a sacrifice? Back in the Old Testament, sacrifices were how people showed their love and devotion to God. They offered animals, grain, or incense. Jesusโ sacrifice on the Cross was the ultimate and final offering. At every Mass, we join in that perfect sacrifice, offering ourselves along with Him. Itโs what the prophet Malachi meant when he spoke of a โpure offeringโ being made everywhere, from the rising of the sun to its setting.
Join us in reflecting on the beauty of the Holy Eucharist, where heaven and earth meet in every celebration of the Mass!
