The Origin of the Celebration of Mary’s Birthday
The celebration of the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8 has deep roots in both tradition and history. Although the exact origin is not clearly documented in the Bible, the date is based on ancient Christian tradition. The Church determined September 8 as the birthday of Mary because it is exactly nine months after the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, celebrated on December 8. The tradition of celebrating Mary’s birth is believed to have begun in the early centuries of Christianity, around the 5th century, particularly in the Eastern Church.

September 8 is the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a woman full of grace from the first moment of her conception. Although she was chosen by God from the beginning, God gave Mama Mary the freedom to decide. And she chose to say YES to the will of the Father.
O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee. Amen.
