San Beda Alabang Embarks on a Transformative Journey with New Building Projects

By Ian Jonas Ruga

On January 20, 2024, San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) celebrated the commencement of its transformative journey with a groundbreaking ceremony for two new buildings during the Pista ng Sto. Nino celebration. The Technical High School and School of Engineering and Technology (THS-SET) building and the Music and Performing Arts Building (MPA) are the latest additions to the campus, reflecting the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic development.

Expanding Horizons for a Diverse Student Body

The project’s conceptualization outlines the purpose of the new buildings. Designed to accommodate a diverse student population, these new buildings will primarily serve students enrolled in the School of Engineering and Technical High School, and in the school’s Music and Performing Arts programs. THS-SET building will rise to six floors, equipped with modern facilities including two elevators and two inclined walkway escalators, while the MPA will rise to five floors, providing them with a conducive environment to hone their talents and skills.

The THS-SET building will feature a cafeteria, administrative offices, science, engineering, computer, home economics, and industrial arts laboratories, and classrooms, among other learning facilities. A unique aspect of the building is the inclusion of two basketball courts on the 6th floor, providing recreational spaces for the college community.

Unveiling the Learners Development Hub

The MPA building will feature various music and visual arts rooms, performing arts studios, a music library, and administrative offices, among other facilities. The Museum and Archives will be annexed to the MPA building. In addition to the THS-SET and the MPA, a learners development center (LDC) will be appended to the School of Engineering, to serve as a centralized hub of knowledge and culture for all Tertiary Schools. It will boast a theater auditorium with 1,500 seatingcapacity, student offices, and a central library, enriching the intellectual and cultural environment of the school. The structure will also include a basement parking with space for 240 cars.

A Journey to Excellence Anchored in Faith and Works

The construction of these new buildings is a significant milestone in SBCA’s five-year development plan, themed “Ora et Labora: Our Journey to Excellence by Faith in God and Works that Lead to a Future-proof School and Sustainable Economy.” Scheduled to commence in July 2024 and conclude in 16 months, this ambitious project aims to enhance the learning experience and foster an environment of excellence and innovation. As SBCA continues to grow and evolve, it remains dedicated to nurturing students who excel academically and spiritually, guided by faith and a commitment to making a positive impact in the world.
