VIII   HONORS & AWARDS

Honors and awards are given to deserving students who excel in academics and manifest good or exemplary deportment. Special awards are also given to meritorious students who embody the totality of SBCA philosophy and objectives.

Pang-Kapat na Pagpaparangal

(Quarter Honor Roll)

Unang Karangalan (First Honor)
- awarded at the end of every quarter to the student:

                                 i.            who receives a general average of 92% or above

                               ii.            who has no grade lower than 90% in any subject

                              iii.            who has no grade lower than 85% in conduct in any subject and in quarterly final grade

                             iv.            who has shown generosity, service and loyalty to the school as evidenced in his work, class projects, in/out of school and class activities, and in growth sessions.

Ikalawang Karangalan (Second Honor)
- awarded at the end of every quarter to the student:

                                 i.            who receives a general average of 90% or above

                               ii.            who has no grade lower than 88% in any subject

                              iii.            who has no grade lower than 85% in conduct in any subject and in quarterly final grade

                             iv.            who has shown generosity, service and loyalty to the school as evidenced in his work, class projects, in/out of school and class activities, and in growth sessions

 Ikatlong Karangalan (Third Honor)
- awarded at the end of every quarter to the student:

                                 i.            who receives a general average of 88% or above

                               ii.            who has no grade lower than 86% in any subject

                              iii.            who has no grade lower than 85% in conduct in any subject and in quarterly final grade

                             iv.            who has shown generosity, service and loyalty to the school as evidenced in his work, class projects, in/out of school and class activities, and in growth sessions

 Karangalan sa Magandang Pag-uugali (Honor Card in Conduct)
- awarded at the end of every quarter to the student:

                                 i.            who has shown exemplary deportment as manifested in general conduct average of 93% with no grade lower than 85% in conduct in any subject

                               ii.            who attended his classes regularly without any unexcused absences provided that he has not incurred more than five (5) excused absences during the quarter

                              iii.            who has been punctual in attending classes and other activities

                             iv.            who has not been imposed deportment demerits whatsoever.

Taunang Gawad at Karangalan
(Annual Honors and Awards: Undergraduates)

  1. Pinakanamumukod na Mag-aaral (Most Outstanding Students)
    - awarded to three (3) students with the highest academic average for each year level provided they have no grade lower than 85% in any subject and in conduct including the quarterly final grade from the first to the fourth quarter.

  2. Medalyang Ginto ng Kagalingan (Gold Medal of Merit) and 100% scholarship
    - awarded to the student who receives the highest academic average in the year level.


  3. Medalyang Pilak ng Kagalingan (Silver Medal of Merit)
    and 75% scholarship

    - awarded to the student who receives the second highest academic average in the year level.


  4. Medalyang Bronse ng Kagalingan (Bronze Medal of Merit)
    and 50% scholarship

    - awarded to the student who receives the third highest academic average in the year level.
  5. Gawad San Mauro sa Namumukod na Mag-aaral
    (St Maur's Award for Outstanding Students.)

    St. Maur (595 A.D.) was a disciple of St. Benedict. Together with St. Placid, he assisted St. Benedict in many duties. A miracle story of the Holy Father was accomplished with their participation.
    This award is given to students who qualified for the Most Outstanding Student Award with a fourth rank and lower.
  6. Gawad San Placido ng Pagkilala sa Akademika
    (St Placid's Award of Academic Recognition)

    St. Placid (ca. 590 A.D.) was a disciple of St. Benedict. Together with St. Maur, he assisted St. Benedict in many duties. A miracle story of the Holy Father was accomplished with their participation.
    This award is given to students who received the highest grade per subject in the year level.
  7. Gawad San Lorenzo Ruiz (St. Lorenzo Ruiz Award)
    St. Lorenzo Ruiz is the first Filipino saint beatified in the Philippines in 1981 and canonized in 1989 by His Holiness, Pope John Paul II. San Lorenzo chose a martyr's death than renounce his faith.
    This award is given to the male and female students who received the highest conduct average in the year level.

  8. Sertipiko ng Magandang Pag-uugali (Certificate of Exemplary Deportment)
    - awarded to students who have consistently maintained an Honor Card from the first to the fourth quarter.

Mga Gawad at Karangalang Pang-pagtatapos
(Graduation Honors and Awards)

Pinakanamumukod na Gawad Pagkakaganap
(Most Outstanding Performance Awards)

- given to the top fifteen (15) graduating students of the class who have consistently maintained exemplary achievement in academics, activities and conduct and who have not received a grade lower than 85% in any quarter in any subject and in conduct, including the quarterly final grade, during the four (4) years of stay in the high school.
The Awards are as follows:

1.      Medalyang Ginto ng Kahusayan (Gold Medals of Excellence)
given to the first set of five students in rank (Valedictorian, Salutatorian, First, Second and Third Honorable Mention)

2.      Medalyang Pilak ng Kahusayan (Silver Medals of Excellence)
given to the second set of five students in rank.

3.      Medalyang Bronse ng Kahusayan (Bronze Medals of Excellence)
- given to the third set of five students in rank.

 The criteria for said awards are as follows:
30% - 4th Year General Academic Average
20% - 3rd Year General Academic Average
10% - 2nd Year General Academic Average
10% - 1st Year General Academic Average
15% - 1st to 4th Year General Conduct Average
15% - 3rd and 4th Year, Activities Grade

Gawad San Benito (St. Benedict's Award)
St. Benedict (480-547 A.D.) is the founding father of all Benedictines. He wrote the Holy Rule and spent his life fulfilling God's will in a life of ORA et LABORA.
This award is given to the valedictorian of the class for exemplary achievement and over-all excellence in the areas of academics, conduct and activities.

Gawad San Beda (St. Bede's Award)
St. Bede (673-735 A.D.) lived in Northumbia and Jarrow, England and spent all his life as a Benedictine monk and devoted to scholarship and prayer.
This award is given to the salutatorian of the class for outstanding achievement in academics, conduct and activities.

Gawad San Gregorio (St. Gregory Award)
St. Gregory I (604 A.D.), as Bishop of Rome, is the First Benedictine Pope who distinguished himself as one of the greatest pastors of the Church. His writings and spiritual leadership brought about a great deepening of the faith in his time.
This award is given to the graduating student who showed remarkable leadership and rendered outstanding service to the school by way of his/her selfless and devoted pursuit of the ideals and objectives of SBCA.

Gawad San Anselmo ng Kagalingan sa Akademika
(St. Anselm's Academic Awards of Excellence)

St. Anselm (1033-1109) is a famous Benedictine scholar and theologian. He wrote many theological treatises and was sought for his learning wisdom.
This award is given to the fourth year graduating students who attain the highest average for four years in each of the subject areas.

Gawad San Bernardo ng Kagalingan sa Akademika
(St Bernard's Award for Outstanding Students)

St. Bernard of Clairvaux was one of the founding abbots of the Cistercian reform of the Benedictine order. He fought for the spiritual renewal of the monastic communities. He is likewise known for his many scholarly and theological writings.
This award is given to students who qualified for the Most Outstanding Performance Awards with rank of sixteenth and lower. This also requires a four-year residence in the high school department.

Gawad Montserrat ng Katapatan sa Paaralan (Montserrat Loyalty Award)
The Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat in Barcelona, Spain is the founding monastery of Benedictine life in the Philippines. The first Benedictine monks from Montserrat came to the Philippines in 1895. The Benedictine Abbey in Manila is also dedicated to Our Lady of Montserrat.
This award is given to graduating students who have continuously studied in SBCA from Grade One to Fourth Year High School without repeating any level; with at least 75% in conduct and no failing mark in the last quarter of his fourth year.

Gawad Pampalakasan (Athletic Awards)
These awards are given to graduating students who have distinguished themselves in any sports competition. Criteria for these awards are determined by the Athletics Office. Recommended awardees are finally screened and given approval by the Honors and Awards Committee. A recommendee must have no failing mark in any subject in the final grade and no grade lower than 80% in conduct in any subject in any quarter and in the quarterly final grade.
